The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve held their 17th Annual Auction Extravaganza on Saturday, February 20th at the Greek Community Center in Akron. “ I am pleased to announce that thanks to our generous underwriters and strong community supporters our Extravaganza 2010 – Sparking Creativity raised over $100,000 in support of our after-school program for at-risk Akron youth,” announced Interim Executive Director Dave Hastings. Over 200 guests attended Extravaganza 2010. Live and silent auctions included everything from lavish gourmet meals and golf outings to hotel packages, a home for a week on a private island, a Las Vegas trip and a beautiful $3,000 diamond bracelet. The first ever Dessert Raffle was wildly successful, as guests bid on unique and delicious desserts that were donated from area restaurants and bakeries. To highlight the Arts, artist Mark Soppeland worked on stage with Boys & Girls Club members, creating a piece of art that was auctioned off later that evening. This year´s Fund an Item set a new Boys and Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve record - raising almost $27,000 to support the Arts! A special thanks to longtime Boys & Girls Club supporter and Bath resident, Myriam Haslinger for speaking on the importance of art programs for our youth.
